Posted in Uncategorized with tags biscayne bay, dry fly, fly fishing, orvis, reel, rod on April 25, 2009 by recklessflyfishingI first read about Fly Fishing in the September 1996 Issue of Boys’ Life Magazine. Pictures of Western Rivers and tiny dry flies were fascinating. I bought my first fly rod shortly after a $30 Shakespeare 7/8 wt rod and reel. I tied flies with bait hooks, sewing thread, yarn, and misc feathers. On my birthday in (9/7) 1997 I caught a small snapper on a fly I tied and it was all downhill from there.
Growing up I worked at Bait & Tackle shops, a Fly Shop and for 3 years drove towboats on Biscayne Bay. In the summer of 2008 the Miami heat finally got the best of me and I moved to northern Virginia got job working for an Orvis shop and spend 50+ days chasing trout in Virginia and Pennsylvania from August-December.
I returned back to Miami to drive towboats and save money for a trip out west this summer/fall. Well the truck is almost loaded and I’ll be leaving Miami April 27.
